چکیده

Background Micro-RNAs (miRNAs) are a class of small non-coding RNA molecules that function though post transcriptional regulation of gene expression by a process termed RNA interference (RNAi). RNAi–mediated targeting of viral RNAs is recognized as an antiviral defense mechanism. The epigenetic effect of miRNAs can either be direct, by interfering with virus genome, or indirect, through downregulation of type I IFN genes. The aim of this study is to identify HRV-A1B specific miRNAs in human broncheal cell line.

Inhibition of Pim1 kinase reduces viral replication in primary bronchial epithelial cells.

Respiratory viral infections are responsible for 85% of asthma exacerbations, which in turn lead to increased morbidity and mortality, causing a high societal and economic burden [1, 2]. Asthma patients have been found to be more susceptible to viral infections compared with non-asthmatic individuals [3]. It has been postulated that a reduced induction of apoptosis in virally infected airway ep...

Azithromycin induces anti-viral responses in bronchial epithelial cells.

The majority of asthma exacerbations are caused by rhinovirus. Currently the treatment of asthma exacerbations is inadequate. Previous evidence suggests that macrolide antibiotics have anti-inflammatory and antiviral effects; however, the mechanism is unknown. We investigated the anti-rhinoviral potential of macrolides through the induction of antiviral gene mRNA and protein. Primary human bron...

Introduction: Avian influenza viruses are considered as a serious threat to human and animal health. An increase in expression of proinflammatory cytokines and type I IFN genes, as well as host cell death responses contribute to the pathogenesis of influenza infection. Hence, this study aimed to evaluate the growth dynamics of subacute avian influenza virus in human respiratory alveolar epithel...

Human airway epithelial cells produce IP-10 (CXCL10) in vitro and in vivo upon rhinovirus infection.

Human rhinovirus (HRV) infections trigger exacerbations of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and are associated with lymphocytic infiltration of the airways. We demonstrate that infection of primary cultures of human airway epithelial cells, or of the BEAS-2B human bronchial epithelial cell line, with human rhinovirus type 16 (HRV-16) induces expression of CXCL10 [IFN-gamm...
